Gold Medallist Doctor takes Charge of Medical Services in Navy

Surgeon Vice Admiral AC Anand takes over as DGMS (Navy)  Surgeon Vice Admiral Anil Chandra Anand took over as the Director General Medical Services (Navy) on 01 June. A gold medallist from the King George Medical College, Lucknow, he was commissioned in the Army Medical Corps on 30 Nov 1975. The surgeon specialised in Medicine and super specialised in Gastroenterology. As a gastroenterologist the Flag Officer pioneered a state of the art `Liver Transplant Centre` at the Army Hospital (R&R) from conceptualisation and development to operationalisation. Vice Admiral DK Joshi Will be the Next Navy Chief

The Government has appointed Vice Admiral DK Joshi, presently Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief (FOC-in-C) Western Naval Command, as the next Chief of the Naval Staff with effect from afternoon of August 31, 2012. The present Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral NK Verma retires from service on Aug 31, 2012. Born on July 04, 1954 Vice Admiral Joshi was commissioned on April 01, 1974 in the Executive Branch of the Indian Navy. During his long and distinguished Service spanning nearly 38 years, he has served in a variety of Command, Staff and Instructional appointments. Vice Admiral Joshi`s Sea Command includes Guided Missile Corvette Kuthar, Guided Missile destroyer Ranvir and the Aircraft Carrier Viraat. Vice Admiral Pradeep K Chatterjee takes over as Deputy Chief of Naval Staff First ever Submariner Deputy Chief of Naval Staff

Vice Admiral Pradeep K Chatterjee, AVSM, NM, today took over as the Deputy Chief of Naval Staff at the Integrated Headquarters Ministry of Defence (Navy). Commissioned on 01 January 1977,the Flag Officer specialised as a submariner, and went on to command the Shishumar class (Type 1500) submarines, INS Shankush and INS Shankul, the latter of which he commissioned. His ship commands include the training Ship INS Krishna, and Guided Missile Destroyer, INS Rajput. A recent deal to establish an Indian air base in the Maldives is an important step in India’s goal of creating a network of military facilities and relationships across the Indian Ocean.   In August, India signed a  defence pact  with the Maldives involving the use of the old British airbase on Gan island by Indian naval aircraft and the establishment of a system of electronic monitoring facilities across the country.   According to the Maldivian President, the installations are to protect the Maldives’ large EEZ from illegal fishing.  Perhaps India is also mindful of the unique position occupied by Maldives, astride the major sea lines of communication between the Middle East and East Asia. “Incorporating Quantum Enhancement in Technology, Ranging from Nuclear Propulsion to Advanced Weapon Platforms and Networked Systems”: Admiral Nirmal Verma 2012 - Year of the Ex-serviceman The Naval Commander’s Conference was conducted at New Delhi from 08-10 May 12. The Hon’ble Raksha Mantri inaugurated the conference and complimented the Indian Navy on its all round performance. The Naval Commander’s discussed several important issues during the conference, including Operational Readiness, Coastal Security, Infrastructure Development, Information & Cyber Security as also Foreign Cooperation initiatives.
